A recent randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical study published in Microorganisms evaluated the effects of four weeks of Benicaros (carrot rhamnogalacturonan-I (RG-I)) supplementation in healthy adults. The study assessed microbiota composition, metabolic activity, immune cell activation, and gut health outcomes with validated questionnaires.

The results showed a rapid prebiotic effect with significant increases in Bifidobacteria which peaked at week three. The supplement also appeared to prime dendritic cells, suggesting innate immune training. Benicaros balanced microbiota even in participants who were already consuming fiber-rich diets, and improved stool consistency.

Additional lab studies also showed that Benicaros and its fermentation products, such as short-chain fatty acids, helped to protect the gut barrier under stress and inflammatory conditions.

“This second clinical intervention study confirms gut and immune health benefits of Benicaros and strengthens the evidence for its additional role in protecting the gut barrier,” said McKay.
